Chief Keith Barrett

Chief Keith E. Barrett, Ret., of Masury, Ohio, answered his last alarm at 8:15 am Friday, February 1, 2019, while a patient at UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless, Pennsylvania, following a brief illness. He was 64.

Keith was born February 24, 1954, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son to George E. & Ann L. (Fowler) Barrett.

A 1972 graduate of Brookfield High School, he furthered his education by attending Professional Firefighter School, which was held at Kent State University, Trumbull Campus.

His career in fire service spanned 48 years, of which 35 years were dedicated to the position of Chief for the Brookfield Township Fire Department. In addition, he worked for Seagrave Fire Apparatus over the last several years.

Chief Barrett was very active in his community and in fire service. He was a member of the Trumbull County Association of Firefighters; International Association of Firefighters; International Association of Fire Chiefs; Ohio State Fire Chiefs Association; Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters; Charter member & past president of the Trumbull County Fire Chiefs; and the Trumbull County Fire Instructors Association. Furthermore, he was a member of the Friends of Mexico.

In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, cooking (a former chef at Shuster's Steak House), and hosting family dinners. He was well-known for his cheese cake, the love he had for his dogs, mowing his grass, and tending to his rhubarb patch.

He is survived by: his sister Vicki L. Webber (Tom), Masury; his nephew, Tom Webber, Jr (Jamie), Hubbard, Ohio; his niece, Erin M. Newbrough (Eric), Howland, Ohio; his great nephew, Lexington Newbrough, great niece, Storie Webber, and great nephews, Ethan & Matthew Karpinski; close companions, John T. Welsh (Donald T. Burns), Masury; and his countless friends and colleagues in fire service.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A time of gathering to honor Keith will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019, from 4-8 PM in the Auditorium of Brookfield High School, 614 Bedford Rd., Brookfield, Ohio 44403. Please enter from the Elementary School Entrance. To further recognize Keith, a Fireman's Funeral Service with be offered on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at 11:00 AM, also in the Auditorium. He will be laid to rest with family in the Brookfield Township Cemetery.

As suggested by his family, material contributions can be made to the Brookfield Fallen Firefighters Foundation, 774 State Route 7, NE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403.
